Jack's Take
- I couldn't pass up the opportunity to get into a kayak for $125... (purchased second hand)
- Recently, we did a 7 hr paddle on the Etowah River (Georgia). My son (12 yrs old) used this kayak. He didn't complain at all about the kayak. He complained about sun burn, and some other stuff, but not about the kayak ;) I was in my new, used Walden Naturalist kayak.
[edit]
Pros:
- Stable
- Maneuverable
- Not too heavy
- Large cockpit makes it easy to get in and out of
[edit]
Cons:
- Hard to get alot of speed out of it (about 3 mph on still water, if I had to guess)
- Seat is just hard plastic, some have complained about this on long paddles, but on my short 1 hr paddles, this has not been a problem. Didn't bother my son on our 7 hr paddle.
[edit]
Summary:
Excellent beginner kayak (and my first kayak). If you are looking to get across a big lake fast, this isn't the boat for that. It is good for both river and lake, so I like that flexibility. I'm looking for a longer/faster kayak for the lake, but for now, this works.
